Clemson University's Material Science and Engineering Department is seeking to sole source an atomic force microscope operating in a high vacuum environment, developed by Park Systems. The microscope will be used for novel experiments on single defect engineering of quantum and classical materials, unique nanoscale probes of biological materials, and sub-surface imaging of devices and materials for energy and information. It will also serve as a development platform for multi-probe experiments combining microscopy with nano-manipulators, enabling rapid prototyping of new materials and devices and understanding non-equilibrium material properties. The combination of multimodal characterization, multiple stimuli, and high spatial resolution will create a unique platform for automated experiments and machine learning.
