The MCIDAS-X software is crucial for the National Weather Service's (NWS) forecast mission, supporting satellite data processing and visualization of geophysical data. The contract includes 54 licenses with next business day support for systems running on Windows and Linux operating systems. The statutory authority for this sole source procurement is FAR ****(a) and FAR ****(b)(1). The NWS has determined that SSEC is the sole entity in the United States capable of meeting these requirements. Interested firms that believe they can meet the government's requirements must submit substantiating documentation in writing to the identified points of contact within 15 days of this synopsis publication. The deadline for submitting responses is June 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM EST, via email to ***@***. *. * and ***@***. *. * communications are not acceptable. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a licensee for their Spacecraft Speedometer technology. This technology provides real-time velocity measurements for satellites without relying on GPS, making it ideal for small satellites, cubesats, deep space missions, and situations where GPS is unreliable (low altitudes, high radiation, geomagnetic storms). The system uses a dual-sensor head electrostatic analyzer (ESA) to analyze ambient space plasma charged particles. Key advantages include direct in-situ velocity measurement, a compact and low-power design, enhanced space weather monitoring capabilities, and increased accuracy for satellite tracking. The technology has a Technology Readiness Level 3, with component prototypes built and proof-of-concept testing completed. It is patent pending. LANL is looking for a manufacturing partner or system integrator to refine production and deploy this technology into commercial and defense satellite markets. Interested parties should contact licensing@lanl. gov.

This is a presolicitation notice of intent to award a sole source modification to Spire Global subsidiary, Inc. for a 12-month extension of performance period for engineering technical services. The extension is from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027. The original contract was awarded competitively. The rationale for the sole source award is that Spire Global is the only source with a space-qualified HYMS sensor in orbit, and continuity of this data stream is critical for validating its impact on numerical weather prediction models. Awarding to another source would result in substantial duplication of costs and unacceptable delays. This is not a formal solicitation, but responsible sources may submit a capability statement via email to ***@***. *. * and ***@***. *. * no later than 11:00 am EST on May 16, 2026.
The bid notice states that the period of performance extension is from October 01, 2026 through September 30, 2027.
The bid notice states that the statutory authority for this non-competitive action is 41 **** a 1, as implemented by FAR subpart **** 1, only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
The bid notice states that Spire Global is currently the only source with a space qualified HYMS sensor in orbit launched January 11, 2026. The 16u platform is uniquely configured to support the specialized thermal management and power distribution required by the HYMS payload.
