The Town of Auburn, Massachusetts is seeking bids for road reconstruction and resurfacing. The project involves approximately 1. 8 miles of work, including storm water drainage, roadway, parking lot, and sidewalk construction. Bidders must be prequalified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) in pavement surfacing. All employees on site must have completed the OSHA 10-hour training course. There is a 5% MBE/WBE requirement and a 5% minority employee percentage goal for this project. Bids are due by May 8, 2026, at 12:00 PM. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 29, 2026. Questions must be submitted in writing by May 1, 2026.
All work in this contract shall be substantially complete by May 15, 2027, unless otherwise approved in writing by the engineer.
The owner shall retain a percentage of the estimated value as part security for fulfillment of the contract by the contractor, and shall deduct from the balance all previous payments made to the contractor, all sums chargeable against the contractor and all sums to be retained under the provisions of the contract. The owner shall pay monthly to the contractor the balance not deducted and/or retained as aforesaid.
The contractor guarantees that the work and services to be performed under the contract, and all workmanship, materials and equipment performed, furnished, used or installed in the construction of the same, shall be free from defects and flaws and shall be performed and furnished in strict accordance with the drawings, specifications and other contract documents, that the strength of all parts of all manufactured equipment shall be adequate and as specified and that the performance test requirement of the contract shall be fulfilled. This guarantee shall be for a period of one year from and after the date of completion and acceptance of the work as stated in the final estimate.
Bids will be compared on the basis of the total project bid price, unit prices and contractors qualifications as stated in bid.
All bidders shall be prequalified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to complete the proposed work prior to receiving the contract documents.
If the contractor fails to complete the work satisfactorily on or before the date of completion fixed herein or as duly extended by written certification of the engineer, the contractor agrees that the owner shall deduct from the payments due the contractor each month, the sum set forth under the special conditions for each calendar day of delay, which sum is agreed upon not as a penalty but as fixed and liquidated damages for each day of such delay.
A prebid meeting will be held on April 29, 2026 at 12:00 pm at the Town Hall Selectman's Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, 104 Central Street, Auburn, MA.
