The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is seeking bids for painting services for specific floors (2, 3, 16, 17) of their Alumni Residence Hall. The project involves cleaning, preparing, priming, and painting interior surfaces, including rooms, corridors, walls, ceilings, doors, and HVAC units. Contractors must protect furniture and existing finishes. Key requirements include a minimum of five years in business, satisfactory past performance with at least three references, submission of financial viability documentation, and attendance at a mandatory pre-bid site inspection. Bidders must also comply with New York State labor laws, including prevailing wage requirements and submitting a contractor registration certificate. Bids must be submitted electronically in PDF format by April 24, 2026. The award will be made to the lowest responsible bidder. Additional documents required with the bid include a bid checklist, contractor reference sheet, bid analysis form, non-collusive bidding certification, and bid security (2% certified check or 10% bid bond). The original bid security must be mailed or dropped off at FIT's purchasing department. FIT encourages minority and women-owned business enterprise (MWBE) participation.
Bids must be received by Friday, April 24th, 2026, on or before 12:00 p. m.
The contract documents detail payment terms, including progress payments and final payment procedures. A 10% retainage will be deducted from all progress payments.
All work on this project shall be guaranteed by the contractor for a period of not less than five (5) years, or longer where covered by manufacturer warranty. Warranty to start on the day of the final signoff by FIT.
The award of the contract shall be made to the bidder submitting the lowest responsible bid if, in the opinion of FIT, the bid is responsive to the bid solicitation, and such bidder is responsible and qualified to perform the work involved in the sole discretion of FIT.
Bidder shall have been primarily a general contractor business for a minimum of five (5) years as of the bid opening date. Bidder shall have satisfactorily performed work of the size, scope and nature to be performed under this contract, as evidenced by references from at least three (3) different successfully completed contracts in an installation similar to those indicated for this contract in the past five (5) years. Bidder shall submit documentation of financial viability, including balance sheets and profit and loss statement for the prior two (2) years, with the bid. Contractor must comply with New York State Labor Law section 220i and submit their NYS DOL certificate of contractor registration with their bid.
The successful bidder, upon failure or refusal to execute and deliver the contract and bond required within ten (10) days after such bidder has received notice of the acceptance of such bid, shall forfeit to FIT as damages for such failure or refusal, the security deposited with the bid or the sum of the difference between the total bid of the successful bidder and the total bid of the bidder submitting the next lowest bid, whichever sum shall be higher.
A mandatory prebid site inspection for prospective bidders will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11:00 a. m. at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Feldman C Building Lobby, located at 227 West 27th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue. Failure to attend shall be grounds for rejection of your bid.
Submit two (2) finish paint samples applied over recommended primers for each substrate to be painted. Samples shall be in the designated color and specified ASTM D 523 reflectance as indicated on the drawings.
