This is a Request for Information (RFI) for market research regarding innovative, high-performance battery solutions for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to support extended flight duration. The US Forest Service (USFS) is seeking information from battery manufacturers or qualified industry partners. Key areas of interest include increased capacity, endurance, faster charging capabilities without degrading battery life, and compatibility with the Alta X platform. Responses should include potential offerors' Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), be in PDF format, and emailed to the contracting officer by 12:00 PM MT on March 31, 2026. Domestic sources will be prioritized. Information on technical maturity, integration requirements, funding, schedule, engineering effort, and other resources is requested for conceptual or developmental solutions. Specific technical requirements include chemistry type, voltage, capacity, energy density, performance data at various altitudes, form factor, discharge ratings, BMS capabilities, thermal management, charging time, cycle life, environmental operating envelope, and compatibility with the Alta X airframe. Submissions must include a compatibility assessment, safety compliance documentation, parts and maintenance information, storage instructions, emergency operation procedures, and support capabilities. Production lead times, scalability, technical support, customization options, warranty terms, past deployments, case studies, and rough order of magnitude (ROM) cost estimates are also requested.
The deadline for submitting responses to this RFI is 12:00 PM MT on March 31, 2026.
The bid notice requests information on warranty and warranty terms as part of the submission requirements.
This RFI is for market research only and does not constitute a solicitation for proposals, therefore, there is no award criterion.
Responses may be submitted by battery manufacturers or other qualified industry partners capable of delivering flight ready or near-term battery solutions.
