This is a sources sought notice for market research purposes only, not a solicitation for proposals. The United States Space Force (USSF) is seeking information on companies capable of performing non-recurring engineering, design, fabrication, and integration of three custom tracking ball controllers. The scope includes custom design and engineering for form factor and operational requirements, electrical design, and custom firmware/software development for communication with a legacy operating system, including a reflash capability. The controllers must have X and Y-axis force proportional tracking, USB interface with HID protocol, a minimum 10-foot USB cable, and be compatible with Microsoft Windows 10 and 11. They must also be updatable post-build and install. The system needs to include operation and service manuals, Microsoft Windows drivers, service recommendations, configuration procedures, and firmware update procedures. Vendors should also include any other necessary software or procedures for operation and configuration. The tracking ball will include a base for desktop operation and be easily removable for installation into a fixed station without special hardware, using standard screws. A dimensioned drawing of mounting holes, thread pitch, and mounting plate clearance is required. The top hemisphere of the ball should be approximately 3 inches in diameter. Comprehensive user manuals, interface documentation, and software drivers are required, along with limited post-delivery integration support, user training, and one set of firmware code flash interface hardware. Interested parties are requested to submit a capability statement (max 5 pages) addressing company information (name, address, POC, email, phone, CAGE code, UEI), business size (under NAICS code ****), technical capability and experience in designing/fabricating human-machine interface devices and firmware/software for legacy systems (with at least two similar project examples), and a notional technical approach. The objective is to make existing K mount optical tracking systems remote capable for placement inside facilities where personnel cannot be present, interfacing with a legacy, non-Windows based operating system unique to the K mount system. A commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution is not available.
