Changes in design, material, servicing, or part number require written approval from the contracting officer via a change order. Substitutions require a drawing and explanation. Specific codes (1-6) define the type of change. The material supplied shall contain no metallic mercury and be free from mercury contamination, as mercury is corrosive and toxic. If mercury is functionally required, written approval from the contracting officer is necessary, along with a warning plate. Contamination testing procedures are outlined.
