The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is planning the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program, which includes the construction of a new cable-stayed bridge and approaches to replace the existing Newark Bay Bridge. The anticipated construction period is from 2027 to 2031, with a goal to move traffic to the new bridge in 2031. The new bridge will span Newark Bay, accommodating two lanes of traffic in each direction. Key features include a 1,799-foot cable-stayed bridge, approximately 7,026 feet of approach structures, height-limited towers due to proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport, and a minimum of 135-foot vertical clearance above the navigation channel. The Authority will prequalify prospective bidders, requiring demonstrated experience in similar large-scale projects, cable-stayed bridge construction, and the ability to meet financial, bonding, and insurance requirements. Key personnel must possess a valid New Jersey Professional Engineer (P. E. ) license. Bid documents are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2026, with contract award anticipated in the second quarter of 2027. Substantial completion is targeted within 48 months of the notice to proceed, but no later than the fourth quarter of 2031. Inquiries regarding this contract should be directed in writing via email to ***@***. *. * by Friday, April 17, 2026. Responses will be posted on the Authority's website by Friday, April 24, 2026.
