The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), has a need for
laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) component
builds of novel additively manufactured (AM) NASA nickel-based burn resistant alloys. The procurement is for two tasks: (1)
building thrust chamber components and (2) leasing an LPBF machine for processing specific alloys. The vendor must complete up to two cores and three outer bodies using grcop 42. NASA will provide all models required for
builds. The vendor must notify NASA of any errors or issues during
builds and if powder is switched. For task 2, the vendor must provide a machine with parameters for
builds using burn resistant nickel-based alloys, including orf1, orcalloy21, orcalloy14, alloy 754ods, other ODS-based custom NASA alloys such as grx810, and standard AM alloys for comparison. The machine must be available for a minimum of 5 months. The vendor must use custom-developed parameters for the orf1 alloy. The vendor must notify NASA of any errors or issues during development
builds and if powder is switched. The vendor must complete powder removal after removal from the machine. Powder lots shall be tracked to determine multiple uses for additional studies on recycled powder. The vendor shall provide
build records and any powder certifications associated for traceability of
builds. Any excess powder shall be returned to NASA. NASA shall provide ODS alloying of powder as needed. The vendor shall coordinate with NASA points of contact to process powder. NASA shall provide all sample geometry and models required for
builds. Deliverables include parts built under task 1 and 2, machined parts, and processed chambers. The period of performance is from August 1, 2025, through May 15, 2026. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:00 p. m. Central Standard Time on July 31, 2025. The government intends to acquire commercial items and services using the provisions, clauses, and procedures prescribed in FAR part 12 and FAR part 13.
