The bid due date is April 30, 2026, by 2pm EST.
The city will pay per invoice, identifying dates of work, description of work, location, hours worked, contractual hourly rate, extended labor cost, number of contractor personnel, DPW personnel who authorized work, and a City of Somerville issued purchase order number. Invoices must be submitted via email to the tree warden and to dpwbg@somervillema. gov.
All work performed must conform to the latest revision of the standards of the National Arborists Association ANSI A300 and Z133. Any injury to limbs, bark or roots shall be repaired by the contractor as directed. If a private or public property tree cannot be repaired, the contractor shall pay a mitigation payment of $1,800 per caliper inch of lost tree.
The contract shall be awarded to the responsible and eligible bidder submitting the lowest total price.
Contractors must follow best practices as described by ANSI A300 and Z133 standards. All workers designated to trim or prune trees must be certified arborists and/or have at least 5 years of experience as arborists or tree surgeons. The work crew must be certified to work within 10 feet of utility wires.
If the contractor fails to respond within one hour and/or commence work within two hours for emergency services, the contractor shall pay liquidated damages to the city in the amount of $200 per incident.
